Rapid City, SD, April 4, 2025 – AimaLojic Animal Health is excited to welcome Dr. Larry Cowgill, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Internal Medicine), as Medical Director.

A globally recognized leader in veterinary extracorporeal therapy (ECT), Dr. Cowgill will collaborate with the AimaLojic team to advance the use and development of its carbon hemoperfusion technology for treating severe toxicities in veterinary medicine

Hemoperfusion is an extracorporeal treatment technique in which blood is circulated outside the body through a filter to remove toxins and other undesired substances. This treatment offers a significant improvement over the current standard of care for severe toxicity, allowing for faster removal of toxins (as little as 90 minutes) to prevent long-term organ damage. Compared to other extracorporeal therapies such as dialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange, carbon hemoperfusion can also treat the widest range of common toxicities, often at a lower cost.

With over 45 years of experience in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Larry Cowgill brings a wealth of expertise in extracorporeal therapy (ECT) use and development. Recently retired as the head of nephrology and companion animal extracorporeal programs at both UC Davis and the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center, San Diego, Dr. Cowgill pioneered the use of ECTs in veterinary medicine and has been a driving force in their ongoing advancement.

“We are very excited and grateful to have Dr. Larry Cowgill join our team”, shared Dr. Ronald Shape, CEO of AimaLojic. “His extensive knowledge and experience are an invaluable resource to the team and to the customers we serve.”

Dr. Cowgill added, “To extend my long-term interest in adsorptive therapies and as an observer of AimaLojic from its outset, I am thrilled to join this visionary team to extend the potential of carbon adsorption in veterinary therapeutics.
