About Hemoperfusion

Hemoperfusion is a versatile and cost-effective extracorporeal treatment. Capable of targeting specific molecules in blood, hemoperfusion is now being performed as a first-line treatment for rapid removal of toxins and cytokines at leading veterinary hospitals worldwide.

How Does Hemoperfusion Work?

Hemoperfusion (HP) uses a process called adsorption to remove toxins and inflammatory cytokines from the blood using a special filter. The patient’s blood is run through the filter, which is designed to attract molecules of a specific size and shape (like many common toxins and cytokines). The cleaned blood is then returned to the patient and run through the filter continuously until the toxin level is safely lowered.

Why Hemoperfusion

How is Hemoperfusion Different from Other Extracorporeal Therapies?

Hemoperfusion is often compared to other common extracorporeal therapies (ECTs), such as dialysis (also referred to as hemodialysis, or HD), continual renal replacement therapy (CCRT), and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). While all these ECTs share some therapeutic similarities, hemoperfusion’s versatility, moderate treatment times, and relative cost-effectiveness make it a go-to therapy in many leading hospitals for treating patients with severe toxicities or elevated cytokine levels.

When Should Hemoperfusion Be Used?

Hemoperfusion should be considered in patients with elevated levels of certain toxins or cytokines, where the body’s natural clearance and conventional treatments cannot eliminate the toxins or cytokines quickly enough to prevent life-threatening complications.

Compared to medical management alone, hemoperfusion offers:

Better clinical outcomes

Reduced chance of long-term organ damage

Lower cost for pet owners

Treatments are often less than the cost of an extended hospital stay

Streamlined care

Quicker resolution with faster patient discharge

Higher profit margins for hospital

Cost of treatment and staff time are less than extended hospitalization

Compared to other extracorporeal therapies such as dialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange, hemoperfusion offers greater versatility for removing a wide range of common toxins.

ReVive® HP Complete Hemoperfusion System

The ReVive® HP Complete Hemoperfusion System is engineered for maximum treatment efficiency and effectiveness. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the CytoClear™ and ToxiClear™ adsorption columns, the ReVive® HP optimizes hemoperfusion delivery, helping you achieve the best possible treatment outcomes.

1 AimaLojic® Blood Purification Filter…

…is placed in the ReVive® HP pump and turned on after placing a traditional dialysis catheter.

1 Treatment

Over the next 30-90 minutes the patient’s blood is circulated through the purification filter, or column as we call it, rapidly removing toxins and returning filtered blood back into the patient.

1 Life Saved

In most cases patients return home same-day and are asymptomatic within 90-minutes.
