Ronald L Shape, Ed.D.

CEO & CFO

In 1991, Dr. Shape began his career in higher education at National American University’s Ellsworth Air Force Base campus in western South Dakota.  Over his 30 plus year career, Dr. Shape held numerous roles, including: System Assistant Director of Financial Aid, System Controller, Executive Vice President, Regional President, Chief Fiscal Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and President/Chief Executive Officer.

In these roles, Dr. Shape managed the oversight for the policies and procedures to ensure compliance with multiple regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Defense, and multiple other state and regulatory agencies.  In addition, Dr. Shape managed the fiscal operations of a multi-state, multi-location system with a domestic and international presence.  He coordinated the development and execution of the policies, procedures, and processes to ensure fiscal responsibility, clean audits with no findings or deficiencies, growing revenue streams, launching new business verticals, strategic and operational planning; and leading the organization in a capital raise through a reverse merger with a SPAC to become a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ.

Dr. Shape has spent over 12 years working in the public capital markets, providing quarterly and annual shareholder meetings, presenting at numerous conferences, managing public relations, and working with several large investment firms and analysts to build the demand for the company’s stock.  He is well versed in financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow needs; strategic planning, with a focus on building shareholder value, revenue growth, operating efficiencies, and the process of taking a company public.

Dan Smith

CHEIF OPERATING OFFICER

(1983-1987) – Mr. Smith started an early career as a licensed electrician in Iowa prior to, and while attending, Iowa State University and NIT.  (1987-1990) – As an Electrical Engineering Tech for American Home Products/Fort Dodge Labs, IA, Mr. Smith provided a diverse level of engineering services in biological/pharmaceutical manufacturing, automation, packaging, calibration, HVAC Control, and PLC control systems.  (1990-1994) – Advancing into commercial and consumer high-end electronics, and A/V solutions Mr. Smith provided technical sales, design/service management, and marketing.

(1994-Present) – Finding his niche in commercial photography, digital imaging, and marketing, Mr. Smith purchased a commercial studio in Rapid City, SD, where he has played a significant role in the current digital industry.  This has provided him many great opportunities to work for Tier 1 industries, many celebrities and world-wide customers over the past 24 years while providing a full gamut of services including marketing, consulting, imagery, and print materials.  In addition, he has had the opportunity to broaden his engineering knowledge and skills though design and project management in Ophthalmic device design, development and commercialization.  He has also provided business development for other engineering specialties along with project management.

Jeff Barnes

VP of Technical & Business Development

Mr. Barnes started his career in the medical field of Ophthalmology. During 22 years in the field, most of his accumulated experience is in medical device sales and marketing. His experience includes product development, product management, new product launch, field sales, sales management and sales strategy. Early in his career he worked as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and Surgical Assistant and travelled extensively coordinating and assisting in surgical procedures involved with clinical trials utilizing new laser technology.

Mr. Barnes received numerous awards for sales achievements and marketing accomplishments from Bausch & Lomb and Abbott.  Mr. Barnes serves Intrinsic Materials Corp as its President and is tasked with overseeing details of product development, business strategy, and management the ImmutriX Therapeutic’s subsidiary.  He is a hands on leader with all aspects of procurement, contract negotiations, materials manufacturing, scale-up production and regulatory compliance focus.  All managers of the Intrinsic team report to Jeff for coordination and optimization of medical and industrial applications for the materials produced by Intrinsic.

Jose A. Diaz Aunon, PhD.

VP of Technology and Product Development

Dr. Diaz has been Senior Chemist since March 2016 for Intrinsic Materials Inc. Prior to joining Intrinsic Mr. Diaz was Production and Quality Manager at Rescala Biomed Ltd in England from 2013-2015, he was involved in the manufacturing of activated carbon beads from phenolic resins.

Prior to that he was an advisor of Pirorec SL (Ltd.) in Spain for the implementation of reactivation and thermal purification of carbon black from recycled tires from 2011-2012, also serving as an Associated professor at Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain in 2011. Dr. Diaz was Co-founder and R&D Manager of Carbongen, SA (Corp.) in Spain from 2002-2011. He specialized in activated carbon manufacturing.

This company was a spinoff from the University of Alicante. He graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Alicante, Spain in 1997. He then received his PhD in Chemistry from the same University in 2006. He also served as a Pre-doctoral researcher at the University from 1997-2002.

He received numerous Certificates and awards during his tenure at the University of Alicante. He received two International stays as an invited researcher in 1998 at the University of Litoral, Sante Fe, Argentina and in 2001 at the University of Ottawa, Canada.

He currently holds two patents, one of which is international; has written 9 scientific papers; and has made more than 10 presentations in scientific congress.

Steve Ford

Vice President of Sales

Steve Ford joined the ImmutriX team in 2023. Steve is a seasoned leader with more than 20 years of experience leading sales teams across the healthcare technology market. Steve has led a successful career with organizations such as Abbott, Gambro, Haemonetics, and Kaneka Medical Americas, where he led top performing teams to organizational success.


Steve oversees a comprehensive, market-leading, hemoperfusion portfolio of products as the recently appointed Vice President of Sales Management for ImmutriX and AimaLojic, bringing together the two organizations in the human and veterinary markets. Steve will drive the function of the sales and marketing organization for the US and international markets focusing on the adoption of the ImmutriX/AimaLojic portfolio.


A leader who is passionate about empowering teams and individuals to achieve their full potential, Steve has been recognized with numerous awards in his career, including President’s Club with Abbott, top Performance Excellence in Sales awards with Haemonetics, Regional Sales Teams of the Year as well as the election to the International Advisory Management Team with Gambro.


Steve is a graduate of Wichita State University where he received his bachelor’s degree focused on Marketing/Finance.

Michael Scheidnes

Michael Scheidnes has been in the electronics and product development market for over two decades and has an extreme passion for developing and bringing new technologies to the market. 

In his current role, Michael provides business and technical leadership to the engineering and manufacturing teams including systems engineering, NPI, quality, and test.  Michael is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Dr. Larry Cowgill

Dr. Cowgill is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology of the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and was a member of the clinical faculty for 48 years. For 23 years, he was the Director and Chief Veterinary Medical Officer of the University of California Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego.

Dr. Cowgill is acknowledged for his expertise in urinary disease and was an early pioneer in the application and development of extracorporeal therapies for dogs and cats. He established the world’s first clinical extracorporeal program for animals at UC Davis, and until retirement in 2024 directed the hemodialysis and blood purification programs at both Davis and San Diego.

Dr. Cowgill established the Hemodialysis Academy which has provided in depth, advanced didactic instruction in extracorporeal therapies to more than 1,000 trainees in 32 countries throughout the World. Dr. Cowgill is a board member of the International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) and was inaugural President of the newly recognized American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (ACVNU) and now serves as Past President. 

Dr. Cowgill has 50+ years of experience in veterinary internal medicine, nephrology, and has trained many of the leading authorities in extracorporeal therapies throughout the world. He is a pioneer in the application of hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, and therapeutic apheresis in companion animals and remains a leading authority in the development of blood purification therapies for animals.
